Treatsylvania 2010

This past weekend the City of Fort Collins held an event called Treatsylvania at a local farm. The event consists of a "not so spooky" haunted barn, a trick or treat street, hayrides, and a cookie snack at the end. We thought that this would be a great event to take Liliana to since Varun will be missing her first Halloween this year. So we dressed Lily up in her monkey costume and gave Treatsylvania a try. We weren't sure how she would react to the event since our ticket was for the 7:30 session and her bedtime is usually around 8:00. She ended up having a blast! We took her through the barn and to a few of the trick or treat booths. We also went on the hayride with her. Towards the end we could tell she was getting exhausted, but overall she did an awesome job!

Soapstone Prarie

On Sunday we took a trip to Soapstone Prarie, a natural area north of Fort Collins. Soapstone Prarie is run by the City of Fort Collins and offers guided hikes on Sunday mornings. This past Sunday was the last event of the season before the winter closings so we decided to check it out. There are miles of hiking and biking trails on the property as well as the Historic Lindenmier Site, which was the home to Paleo-Indians 12,000 years ago. We took Liliana on a short 2.4 mile hike and then headed up to the Historic Site. The weather was awesome and we had a great time exploring more of Colorado!

8 Months

Over the weekend Liliana turned 8 months old! We can't believe how much she has changed just since our move to Colorado! She has hit so many milestones and grown so much in the last two months. It was a little sad packing away Lily's 3-6 month summer clothes knowing she would never wear them again. On the other hand, it was exciting to finally get out her 6-9 month clothes. Lily even convinced Daddy to take a shopping trip for new fall clothes!

Here is what Liliana is up to at 8 Months Old:

* She is officially a crawler! One night while we were making dinner in the kitchen we left Lily in the living room with her toys to play. A few minutes later she was into the kitchen, crawled around the kitchen table, and headed off towards the garage door. We knew we were now in trouble so the baby proofing has begun!

* She is also now a climber! Lily will find anything nearby to pull herself up into a standing position. We have caught her using the crib, couch, coffee table, bar stools, and TV stand to stand up. She is successful most of the time!

* Although she still has no teeth, Liliana has turned into quite the eater this past month! She loves food! She is now able to pick up small pieces of food with her fingers and actually get them to her mouth all by herself. This has made feeding her so much easier! Some of her new favorites this month were baked cinnamon apples, pumpkin bread and yobaby yogurt. She even ate an entire child sized enchilada at the Mexican restaurant over the weekend.

* Lately Lily has been an excellent sleeper. She is now sleeping about 12 hours a night. Most nights she sleeps 8pm - 8 am. Recently there have been a few mornings where we woke up, had coffee, and watched a little TV together before she wakes! Although we don't really have a set nap time schedule, she usually takes 2 naps a day. Since we go out often with her, she is pretty flexible with her nap times and will nap just about anywhere and at anytime when she's tired.

Hello October!

It's finally starting to feel like fall here in Colorado. Much of September was still in the 90's and we were begining to wonder when fall would come. It reminded us of living in NC since it was still so warm out! However this weekend we had a taste of fall weather with temps in the 60's and 70's. It was nice to bring out the jeans and jackets and Liliana's fall clothes. We did a little fall decorating around the house and made pumpkin bread. We hope that fall is now here to stay!

On Saturday we took a trip to Cheyenne for the Spouse C-130 flight. Christina flew around the Rocky Mountains with the spouse group while Varun took Lily to a friends house to play during the flight. It was a cold and cloudy day in Cheyenne, but the flight still turned out well. Once we were into the mountains the weather cleared up and there were great views. Here are some pics from the flight.

We were going to take Lily to the pumpkin patch after the flight, but it ended up staying really cold, damp and windy for the rest of the day. So we ended up heading to a local pumpkin patch in Fort Collins Sunday afternoon instead. We watched a few pumpkins get launched and walked around the farm with Liliana. We ended up picking two pumpkins to take home for our front porch.
