Our first visit to the ER

A few days ago, Liliana had her first visit to the Emergency Room. It was a scary experience for us all.

Wednesday was a pretty long day for Lily. After sitting in a car for 7 hours on a trip back from Maryland we all got ready to head over to a friend's house for dinner. We thought about leaving Lily at home with Grandma since she was in town, but we decided to take her. She was a little more tired than usual, but we thought it was related to the long car ride earlier in the day. She also didn't seem to be eating much all day, but again we figured it was due to traveling.

Although tired and a little thrown off, Lily was still quite playful and happy when we got there. After our dinner, Lily was smiling and resting in my arms when all of a sudden she spit up. More than a typical spit up, but nothing too strange. About 5 minutes later it happened again. However, this one was pretty large and forceful. Lily continued to get sick for 2 hours.

We thought about putting her to bed, but we were so worried she would choke while sleeping since she was getting sick so much. Finally she reached a point where there was nothing in her stomach, but she continued to dry heave and her face and lips looked pale. We then decided to take her in to the ER.

We were pleasantly surprised with our care in the ER at Womack. Lily was seen right away and was set up on a IV to receive fluids. It was so hard for us to watch our baby girl get an IV and blood drawn. She was such a trooper! She fussed a little during the process, but never cried. After 3 hours at the hospital, an exam with the doctor, and a few blood tests, we were told she had a virus. We gave her pedialite and took her home to get some rest. We were so happy to see that in less than 24 hours she was feeling better!

Celebrating 5 Months in Maryland

Lily is five months old! Lily celebrated her five month birthday yesterday in Maryland at Christina's parents house. Unfortunately, Varun was not here for her monthly photo shoot since he is still in North Carolina finishing his last week of work. However, we got to visit with Varun's parents and some of Christina's aunts, uncles, and cousins who came over for a cookout yesterday.

Every month we comment on how we can't believe how big Liliana is getting and how much she is changing. Lily seemed to grow up so much over the last month! Here are some of her 5 month milestones:

* She can now roll from tummy to back AND back to tummy. She also rotates her body as she is
lays on her tummy so she can reach things.

* She finally stopped sleeping with a swaddle. Since her movement is no longer restricted with a swaddle, we sometimes find her on her back, tummy, or side while sleeping in her crib.

* She can sit up! We were shocked when she started sip up in a tripod position last week. Over the last two days she has started to straighten her back and stay up for at least a minute on her own.

* She has started solids. So far we have tried oatmeal, sweet potato, avocado, and banana. Sweet potatoes have been her favorite and banana has been her least favorite.

Goodbye North Carolina

Tomorrow Liliana and I will be headed to Maryland to spend some time with the Kapust family. When we return, we will begin our journey out west to our new home in Colorado. Since we have been here almost five years, our countdown to move has been bittersweet. We are ready for a change and have heard so many wonderful things about Cheyenne and Fort Collins however, a lot of memories have been made for us in our five years in North Carolina.

We both moved to NC in 2005 for our jobs. Varun arrived in July and went on his first deployment a few months later. Christina moved to Raleigh in August to start the school year in a new elementary school in Cary. We met over Memorial Day weekend in 2006 through mutual friends (another teacher and navigator). Since then, we have many great memories of our time in the Raleigh and Fayetteville areas, from our late nights out in downtown Raleigh to settling down and married life with a baby in Lillington.

We have made many great friends in our time here. We have seen many of our Air Force friends come and go and over the last few months we have made new friends that we hope to keep in touch with. We have also seen some of Christina's teacher friends come and go over the years as well (isn't it strange how so many of us Wake County teachers married and moved away with Air Force officers?)

Although we are super excited about our move to Colorado, we will miss North Carolina. It is where we started our careers, where we met, and where we started our life together as a family. I'm sure we'll be back for a visit or perhaps NC will be our home again one day (you never know with the military!)

Happy 4th of July!

We hope everyone had a happy and safe Fourth of July weekend. We were pretty busy over the weekend getting the house ready for the upcoming move, but we were able to sneak away to attend two cookouts and watch fireworks. We had a great time meeting up with friends and Liliana had fun with the other little ones. We were a little worried about staying out for the fireworks last night, but Lily did great! After the first boom her little bottom lip started to come out, but she never cried. She stared in amazement at the fireworks. We were shocked at how much she enjoyed them! She even stayed up two hours past her bedtime with no problems :)
